One City, Three Campuses

WVU Morgantown has three campuses: the original main campus, typically called the Downtown Campus, Evansdale, and Health Sciences.

DOWNTOWN

While the Downtown Campus is located on the fringe of the retail district, the transition to historic architecture, towering old-growth trees, and lush grassy areas is seamless. This part of the campus includes eight academic buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, including the iconic Woodburn Hall, housing the Seth Thomas clock.

The Downtown Campus comprises several architectural styles predominantly featuring red brick, including Victorian Second Empire, Federal, Neoclassical, and Collegiate Gothic. Plus, White Hall, home to the WVU Planetarium & Observatory, adds a unique educational and experiential dimension to this blend, offering visitors a glimpse into the wonders of astronomy through immersive shows and public programs.

EVANSDALE

The Evansdale Campus, a mile and a half north-northwest, hosts the Creative Arts Center, home to performances and art shows, the Art Museum of WVU, the WVU Alumni Center, and Hope Coliseum, where you’ll find statues of two WVU basketball greats: 14-time NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame player Jerry West, and NBA All-Star player Hot Rod Hundley.

HEALTH SCIENCES

The Health Sciences Campus, in the same outlying area, includes the sprawling WVU Medicine campus, which sits opposite the Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium, home of WVU Football.

Personalized Rapid Transit

Due to the distance between WVU’s three campuses, the university built the innovative Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system in 1973, the world’s first automated rapid transit system. The unique aspect that makes the system “personal” is that a rider specifies their destination when entering the system, and, depending on the system load, the PRT can dispatch a car that will travel directly to that station.

WVU Visitors Centers

The WVU Visitors Centers are the front doors to campus, providing the warm hospitality that Mountaineers are known for in modern, welcoming spaces. Tours led by current students are offered Monday through Friday and select Saturdays. Schedule a campus visit.
