The Creative Arts Center (CAC) is WVU’s premier arts venue with multiple performance spaces.
The building is also home to the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media.
University Arts Series
The 2025-2026 University Arts Series features nationally touring performances in the intimate setting of the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.. Previous performances include Tony award-winning shows like “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Book of Mormon,” concerts like The Temptations, The Four Tops, and Indigo Girls, and other acts like comedians and magic shows.
WV Public Theatre
WVPT is the premier professional theatre company in West Virginia, and productions are mounted locally from start to finish. Past performances include “A Christmas Carol,” “Steel Magnolias,” and “Waitress.”
WVU School of Music
The School of Music features several ensembles in a variety of musical traditions and styles. This includes choral groups, symphony orchestra, a myriad of genres, and world music ensembles.
WVU Theatre and Dance
The School of Theatre and Dance produces 8-10 shows per year, including plays, musicals, and dance showcases. Past productions include “Into the Woods,” “Dance Now!,” and “Twelfth Night.”
About The Creative Arts Center’s Spaces
The CAC is comprised of these performance areas and art galleries:
Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre
As the largest venue in the CCAC, the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre hosts music concerts, musical theatre performances, dance performances, and graduations.
Gladys G. Davis Theatre
The Davis Theatre creates an immersive experience for actors and audiences in 3 to 4 School of Theatre & Dance productions each year.
Antoinette E. Falbo Theatre
The Antoinette Falbo Theatre is a black box theatre seating up to 150 people. This space is used primarily as a studio for movement, voice and acting classes as well as the end-of-semester dance concerts. The Community Arts Program presents performances for families and friends in this space, and the Opera Program produces their opera scenes here.
Bloch Learning and Performance Hall
Bloch Hall serves as a recital hall, classroom, and lecture hall for visiting artists.
Vivian Davis Michael Laboratory Theatre
The Vivian Davis Michael Laboratory Theatre is a small, proscenium style space with flexible seating space. It seats 50-75 people and is used for alternative style works, as well as traditional smaller pieces.
The CAC is further comprised by nine conventional classrooms, five computer labs, eight visual art studios, ceramics shops, sculpture shops, theatre wood and paint shops, theatre costume shop, dark rooms, dressing rooms, ensemble lab, movement lab, and private offices and studios.
Visual art exhibits are presented in the Paul and Laura Mesaros Galleries adjacent to the Douglas O. Blaney Lobby of the facility.
Host Your Next Event at the CAC
University and external groups may rent performance and support spaces in the CAC pending facility and staff availability. All groups are assessed a fee based upon resources utilized, including space, equipment, and labor.
