Celebrate tradition, community, and a rich agricultural heritage at the Preston County Buckwheat Festival in Kingwood, West Virginia. What began in 1938 as a homecoming organized by the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department has grown into a beloved five-day event that draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. Originally created to mark the autumn harvest and honor the region’s buckwheat farming roots, the festival quickly gained national attention- even earning a spot at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
Today, the Buckwheat Festival offers something for everyone, including live music, parades, carnival rides, arts and crafts, and, of course, the festival’s signature buckwheat cakes and sausage. Proudly organized by the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department and supported by dedicated volunteers and community sponsors, it remains a cherished annual tradition for Preston County and beyond.
