What is the Mountaineer Country Tourism Ambassador program?

What started as the Goodwill City Ambassador program in 2008 (?) has transformed into a full-blown volunteer service for the entire Mountaineer Country region.

Initially, the Goodwill City Ambassadors were created to provide hospitality to visiting fans and locals at West Virginia University Football games. Ambassadors would greet fans inside and outside of Milan Puskar Stadium, drive ADA golf cart shuttles to help fans with disabilities navigate the stadium, provide general tourism information, and more. The program grew to address other volunteer needs at events such as Morgantown’s annual Hops on the Mon event.

Fast forward to 2022, and Mountaineer Country’s demand for event volunteers grew exponentially. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, events were back. Only now, they were bigger and better than before.

The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park hosted several National competition-level events, including USA Diving’s Winter National Championships. The Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park continues to host high-traffic events. And the entire area continues to create more experiences for visitors to engage with our region.

Because the Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau (VMCCVB) listened to our tourism partners, we now have the Mountaineer Country Tourism Ambassadors – a program that will continue to grow alongside our destination to provide only the most positive, memorable experiences for our guests while they are here.

We’d love for you to take the pledge and join us in being tourism ambassadors, boots on the ground, and top-tier hospitality gurus.
