About the Planetarium
For more than 30 years, the Planetarium at West Virginia University has given communities an entertaining look at our universe and a glimpse into worlds beyond our own.
Professionally produced shows are offered at the Planetarium featuring topics like constellations, Galilean Moons, The Solar System, Gravitational Waves, Hidden Figures’ astrophysicist Katherine Johnson, Dynamic Earth, Black Holes, Dark Matter, Solar Superstorms, Super Volcanoes, Mayan Skies, Space Opera, and more! Each show begins with a current sky show pointing out visible constellations, planets, and other noteworthy astronomical objects.
These family-friendly shows are tailored for audiences ranging from elementary age to the amateur astronomer.

Stay for the After Party
Weather permitting; at the conclusion of the public show, patrons are invited to visit the rooftop observatory and take a look through the 14” Celestron telescope and observe what is currently visible in the night sky.
