A Fall bucket list full of activities you don't want to miss

It’s that time of year again when family, friends, neighbors and visitors journey to Mountaineer Country for fun-filled events and activities everyone can enjoy. Throughout the months of August, September, and October, Mountaineer Country will be jam-packed with school spirit, local art, the sound of jazz, craft beer, delicious bites and wine tasting.

Mon County Fair

August 8 – August 13 | Fairgrounds at Mylan Park

Looking for a way to kick off your fall? The Monongalia County Fair provides something for everyone and there are so many ways to participate! Come showcase your talents on their entertainment stage or show off in one of the cornhole tournaments. If none of that piques your interest, come enjoy carnival rides and eat as many funnel cakes as your heart desires.

Arts Walk

Aug. 13, Sept. 10, & Oct. 8, 2022 | Downtown Morgantown

Main Street Morgantown has made it a summer of art for Morgantown locals and visitors. Held once a month from March-October, the Arts Walk gives the city a chance to show everyone the many different sides of Morgantown’s art scene. These walks occur on the second Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., come support local artists!

Stroll through more than 60 businesses and view paintings, pottery, photography and more! Explore artists, musicians and performance theater throughout the district. Pop into the retail shops for a little shopping and enjoy lunch, dinner or a drink at one of the restaurants or cafes!

The Arts Walk is free and kid-friendly–perfect for the whole family!

Oktoberfest 2022 at High Ground Brewing

October 1, 2022 | High Ground Brewing

The High Ground Brewing 4th Annual Oktoberfest is coming back to Preston County! Be there on October 1, 2022 to welcome the return of Bar-B-Qued Beast for another German spread you won’t find anywhere else. Then, grab a pint of the long-awaited Famous Monster. Balloons Over Morgantown

September 29 – October 2, 2022 | Morgantown Municipal Airport

Balloons Over Morgantown is a must-see event that occurs annually. This Mountaineer Country staple consists of five hot air balloon launches over the course of the weekend. All of the launches begin at the Morgantown Airport and spectators line the fences and get ready to balloon chase for some of the most stunning pictures of Morgantown’s fall foliage.

Preston County Buckwheat Festival

September 29 – October 2, 2022 | Kingwood, WV

The Preston County Buckwheat Festival will be kicking off Thursday, Sept. 29th at 8 a.m. Mark your calendars for a festival that is full of family-friendly fun!

The Buckwheat Festival activities include a parade, arts and crafts, a car show, carnival, livestock, a pageant, and of course, those delicious Buckwheat Cake dinners served all weekend long.

Wine & Jazz Festival

October 1 & 2, 2022 | Camp Muffly

Grab your friends, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and sip on local wine while listening to the soothing sounds of jazz at the West Virginia Wine and Jazz Festival! The event kicks off on Saturday, October 1, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and continues on Sunday, October 2, from 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Camp Muffly.

Tickets are $25 per person/per day, and admission includes a souvenir wine tasting glass. The festival seeks to return the proceeds from the annual festival back to the community in various ways, such as endowed scholarships to the WVU School of Music, sponsorship of educational endeavors and classes at WVU, free concerts for area middle/high schools, sponsorship of various student and community organizations that assist with the festival.

To avoid drinking and driving, buses will be provided free of charge on both days, making continuous trips from the Mountainlair to Camp Muffly between 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Whether rain or shine, the fun still goes on, so bring a raincoat and an umbrella and enjoy!

Parents Fall Family Weekend

October 14-16, 2022 | WVU Downtown Campus

Wondering how your child’s classes are going and where he or she hangs out during their free time? Hop in the car and head to West Virginia University’s campus for a first-hand view of a day in the life of your son or daughter’s college experience.

The WVU Mountaineer Parents Club is kicking off its annual Fall Family Weekend starting Friday, October 15, through Sunday afternoon. You can take a tour through campus, become a student and sit in on a class, ride the PRT and dine at one of the many restaurants near both the Downtown and Evansdale campuses.

Hops on the Mon

October 15, 2022 | High Street, Downtown Morgantown

Sample more than 150 different offerings from local to international breweries at Hops on the Mon Craft Beer and Food Festival beginning at 3 p.m. This event features quality brews from around the world and food options from Mountaineer Country eateries. Be sure to vote for your favorite brewery and restaurant at the end of the event!
