It’s that time of year again when family, friends, neighbors and visitors journey to Mountaineer Country for fun-filled events and activities everyone can enjoy. Throughout the months of August, September, and October, Mountaineer Country will be jam-packed with school spirit, local art, the sound of jazz, craft beer, delicious bites and wine tasting.

Arts Walk

September 11, 2021 | Downtown Morgantown

The September Fall Arts Walk will take place on Saturday, September 11 in Downtown Morgantown.

Stroll through more than 40 businesses and view paintings, pottery, photography and more! Explore artists, musicians and performance theater throughout the district. Pop into our retail shops for a little shopping and enjoy lunch, dinner or a drink at one of the restaurants or cafes!

The Arts Walk is free and kid-friendly–perfect for the whole family!

Oktoberfest at Alpine Lake Resort

Come one, come all! This Oktoberfest event is open to the public and with no admission fee at the ALR Boathouse at Alpine Lake Resort in Terra Alta, WV. Enjoy authentic German food and drink and stick around for events, raffles, horse and carriage rides, face painting and more, starting from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 18. Come dressed in your best Oktoberfest outfit for a chance to win a prize!

Oktoberfest 2021 at High Ground Brewing

The High Ground Brewing 3rd Annual Oktoberfest is coming back to Preston County! Be there on September 18, 2021 for the return of Bar-B-Qued Beast for another German spread you won’t find anywhere else. Then, grab a pint of Märzen, Famous Monster. This lager is available only for a short time once a year. It is crisp, clean, toasty, and caramelly. Perfect for fall!

Wine & Jazz Festival

September 25 & 26 | Camp Muffly

Grab your friends, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and sip on local wine while listening to the soothing sounds of jazz at the West Virginia Wine and Jazz Festival! The event kicks off on Saturday, September 25, from Noon-6 p.m. and continues on Sunday, September 26, from 1 p.m.-6 p.m. at Camp Muffly.

Tickets are $25 per person/per day, and admission includes a souvenir wine tasting glass. The festival seeks to return the proceeds from the annual festival back to the community in various ways, such as endowed scholarships to the WVU School of Music, sponsorship of educational endeavors and classes at WVU, free concerts for area middle/high schools, sponsorship of various student and community organizations that assist with the festival.

To avoid drinking and driving, buses will be provided free of charge on both days, making continuous trips from the Mountainlair to Camp Muffly between 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Whether rain or shine, the fun still goes on, so bring a raincoat and an umbrella and enjoy! There will be a large tent near the stage for shelter, as well. However, no pets are permitted.

Preston County Buckwheat Festival

The 80th Preston County Buckwheat Festival will be kicking off Thursday, September 30 at 9 a.m. Mark your calendars for a festival that is full of family-friendly fun!

The Buckwheat Festival activities include a parade, arts and crafts, a car show, carnival, livestock, a pageant, and of course, those delicious Buckwheat Cake dinners served all weekend long.

Sargasso, Terra Cafe & Riverbirch Host Oktoberfest

Sargasso, Terra Cafe, And Riverbirch Cafe have teamed up to bring you the most authentic and fun Oktoberfest in town for another year! Taking place on October 9 from 12 Noon to 9 p.m. at Sargasso in Morgantown, WV. Featuring cuisine by Sargasso’s own Austrian Chef Thomas Metzler, live music and entertainment, and all the beer in boots you can handle! Get in the fall spirit! Tickets includes admission to event, unlimited access to food buffet, and entertainment. Seating is first come, first served. Reserved seating can be secured by purchasing a VIP ticket.

Morgantown Marathon

The 6th Annual Morgantown Marathon with 26.2 “Heavenly Miles” starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, October 10…and yes, it’s hilly! Not only is this marathon challenging with its unique course, but runners can also take in the beautiful scenery this City has to offer and see some popular sites along the way. The marathon continues to support the program, Operation Welcome Home, which provides services and support to help veterans find employment.

Additional races include the Mon Health Half-Marathon and the Mylan Mountain Mama 8K.

Not a runner? No worries! Show your support by sponsoring a mile on the course for a military hero or by making a sign and cheering on the runners! It’s not too late to register, so sign up today! To register and learn more about the additional marathons, visit the website.

Parents Fall Family Weekend

October 15-17, 2021 | WVU Downtown CampusWondering how your child’s classes are going and where he or she hangs out during their free time? Hop in the car and head to West Virginia University’s campus for a first-hand view of a day in the life of your son or daughter’s college experience.

The WVU Mountaineer Parents Club is kicking off its annual Fall Family Weekend starting Friday, October 15, through Sunday afternoon. You can take a tour through campus, become a student and sit in on a class, ride the PRT and dine at one of the many restaurants near both the Downtown and Evansdale campuses.
