Each year, the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties partners with local nonprofit organizations to coordinate volunteer projects that will be completed on one special Day of Caring. This year, which marks the 29th anniversary of this event, is sponsored by Summit Community Bank and will feature many community volunteers working to tackle a variety of projects throughout Monongalia and Preston counties.

These volunteers include individual residents, families, organizations, and corporations. Volunteers use a website, VolunteerMPC.org, to sign up for the project of their choice, allowing them to decide what aligns with their interests and abilities. Likewise, they can use the website to create a team and sign-up with friends, groups, family members, and co-workers. The projects help the nonprofit organizations involved and include everything from painting, to gardening, to cleaning up trails, and more.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, volunteers will meet virtually on Zoom for a Kick-Off Celebration. At that time, they will learn more about what other volunteers are doing and the schedule for the day, as well as why volunteering is important. Directly following the Kick-Off Celebration, volunteers will disperse to various locations throughout Monongalia and Preston counties to work on their projects.
