16th Annual West Virginia Chestnut Festival!

The Chestnut Festival is back again, and celebrating all day long to celebrate the great American chestnut tree and the Science of Restoration! Enjoy a day full of roasted chestnuts, vendors, and events. Stick around after for a Gala Banquet featuring the annual crowning of Mr. & Mrs. Chestnut, dinner, and more. Banquet tickets will be available at the Historic Rowlesburg School Szilagyi Center Auditorium door before the banquet. Rowlesburg, West Virginia is known best for its festivals, Civil War and railroad history, outdoor activities, and antiques. The annual Chestnut Festival is one of Rowlesburg’s many popular festivals hosted annually!

Start your day with breakfast at River City Cafe from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

If you need to fuel up before the festival, head to River City Cafe for a full breakfast. Donation requested.

Events at Scenic Rowlesburg Park from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. include…

Roasted chestnuts on the grill (or raw), chestnut tree seedlings for sale, honey products, chestnut furniture by Charles Wotring, art and craft vendors, ox-roast sandwiches at the concession stand, and avian conservation center of Appalachia: bird exhibit! The Cannon Hill Historic Site will be open for self-guided tours.

Visit the Historic Rowlesburg School Szilagyi Center

Take a food break with River City Cafe desserts before checking out the River City Pottery Studio and River City Art Room! Stroll through time and enjoy the World War II Museum, Preston County Sports Museum, and Historic B&O Centenary Bridge Exhibit. From 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., there will be a meeting of the WV Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation that the public is also welcome to, and from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., you can enjoy a Chestnut Technical Session with experts.

Rowlesburg Community Park from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Gala Banquet from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Events include welcome and introduction of distinguished guests, 16th annual crowning royalty “Mr. and Mrs. Chestnut”, Chestnut-Vino Novello ritual, dinner, and a keynote speaker!
