Balloons Over Morgantown

Returning after a six-year hiatus, hot air balloons will be flying over Greater Morgantown once again.

hot air balloon_glowOrganizers have arranged for 15 balloons to fly over Morgantown. Launches take place morning and evening from Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25 at the Morgantown Municipal Airport.

The site and times of the launches have not yet been determined. Check back HERE for further information.

Give Back A Smile 5k Run/Walk

The West Virginia University (WVU) School of Dentistry is hosting the 5th annual 5k run/walk benefiting the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s “Give Back A smile” (GBAS) program.

GBAS assists in rebuilding the lives and dignity of survivors of domestic violence through compassionate cosmetic dentistry in the smile-zone.

Registration and pack/bib pick up will be from 7:45-8:30 a.m. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Registration after October 9 does not guarantee a T-shirt due to the limited supply. Register online today!

Registration prior to October 3 is $25 per walker/runner. October 4 – October 23 is $30 and day of event registration is $35.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers overall. Door prizes will also be distributed.

Making Strides Against Breast CancerMaking Strides

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, join Making Strides of North Central West Virginia in the fight against breast cancer. Making Strides is a non-competitive 5k walk/run associated with the American Cancer Society.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Hazel Ruby McQuain Waterfront Park. The race will begin at 10 a.m. Pre-register and/or donate to the cause HERE.

Making Strides walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation. Nearly 300 communities share the determination to finish the fight. This inspiring event will unite Greater Morgantown in honoring and celebrating breast cancer survivors as well as educating women about how to prevent the disease and how to find local support groups/services for those facing the disease.

Stepping Stones Car Raffle Dinner

Stepping Stones is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities achieve their maximum level of independence through innovative and personal programs.

From 6-9 p.m., Saturday, October 24 Stepping Stones is hosting a car raffle fundraiser at The Lakehouse on Cheat Lake. Tickets to attend are $35 and entitle the ticket holder to dinner from the Lakehouse and a chance to win $1,100 in cash prizes. You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a ticket. Joe Romeo’s 1-79 Honda/Mazda has donated A 2015 Honda Civic LX for raffle. You must be present to win the car and other cash prizes. The winner of the car is responsible for all taxes, title fees and registration.

Stepping Stones is housed within Mylan Park. The 11,000 square-foot facility is equipped with a gymnasium, an outdoor therapy pool and office space.
