Annual Labor Day Weekend Celebration and Ox Roast!
Historic Rowlesburg, W.Va. will host its annual Labor Day Weekend Festival Saturday, September 4 through Monday, September 6.
Rowlesburg is a “Flagship Community” and its citizens are committed to the revitalization of their hometown following the Great Flood of 1985. Town organizations continually work toward beautifying the town by planting flowers, working with streetscape projects, park cleanups and more.
The Rowlesburg Community Park is a multi-acre park, located on the riverside in the Cheat River Valley, with two baseball fields, a lighted walking path, basketball court, tennis court, picnic pavilions and a summer concession stand.
The festival kicks off with the Labor Day Dance is set for 8 p.m. until midnight–doors open at 7 p.m.–at the Szilagyi Center. Cost is $10 per person.
On Sunday, the Rowlesburg High School All-Class Reunion will be from 1-5 p.m. with an $8 buffet.
On Labor Day, Monday, September 6, there will be plenty of live music, as well as a vendor village with local crafts and items for sale–and the annual Ox Roast! Returning this year, will also be activities, games, and face painting for children to enjoy. Rowlesburg’s Famous “Pit-Roast Beef” will be there from noon until 6 p.m. (or until they’re sold out). The roast beef for the Ox Roast is pit-cooked overnight in the Community Park. Secret seasonings are added from a recipe that is said to be handed down for over 40 years from a former Rowlesburg railroad chef.
A Labor Day firework show will then end the festival Monday evening. With activities for all ages, this festival is the perfect outing for the whole family!
